Thus says the Lord…but did He?Ezekiel 13

During the US presidential elections in 2020, a number of well known, and might I add, well respected/regarded pastors ‘prophesied’ that the Donald Trump was going to win the elections. As we now know….HE DIDN’T! President-elect Joe Biden was eventually sworn in as the 46th president of the Unites States on January 20th.

The world went into a frenzy and made a point of mocking some of these these pastors who said:

  • ‘I hear the sound of victory’ ‘the Lord said it is done
  • Media said Joe Biden is president ha ha ha ha ha ha aha ha‘…..seriously that is what he said and the entire congregation also laughed with him
  • ‘I want to say without question, Trump is going to win the election‘.
  • ‘The Lord has anointed and appointed Trump to be a president of second term it’s not 2024 it’s right now in a couple of weeks‘!!!

One singer/pastor even alleged that their ‘prophecy’ “… is bringing confusion in the body of Christ and causing a rift in the body of Christ.  God is not the author of confusion. Whenever there is dissension and confusion, there is demonic activity. What we’ve seen clearly is demonic activity in the body of Christ across the board”.

Well I don’t know if I agree that there was demonic activity involved but one thing I know is that it definitely dealt a blow to the body of Christ and made a mockery of our faith. The scriptures, which is the Bible and infallible word of God, makes it absolutely clear that whatever a prophet says it comes to pass. Most especially the scripture states that God’s Word would not fall to the ground or come back to Him void; which means whatever He says has to be fulfilled. Thus I was led me to ask – DID GOD REALLY TELL THEM TRUMP WAS GOING TO WIN THE ELECTIONS in 2020?

I stand to be corrected but if memory serves me well after Biden was declared the winner, not a single ‘prophet’ stood by their ‘prophecy’ and maintained their stance that he would win…. instead what we got was retraction of statements on social media, apologies and in some cases……a deafening SILENCE etc

My take on this is that clearly there were some false prophets and there were pastors who didn’t hear God but instead were led by their desires and the prophetic trend – Jeremiah 23:30-32. Trump stood for christians and mostly for what was godly so in my opinion these so called prophets were desperate and rooting for him to win and get e-elected; the problem, and where they went wrong, is they said God said it would happen.

It is of no consequence that the election was rigged or votes were stolen…God’s Word will still stand and if truly God spoke, Trump would have won the 2020 election. This was a clear cut case of false prophecy. God Himself is so sure of His words coming to pass that he says if a prophet prophecies in His name and it doesn’t come to pass, that prophet should die and should not be referred or respected… He said it not me check out Deuteronomy 18:22

The most mis-quoted and misunderstood scripture by defensive christians – Matthew 7:13

Hmmmmn if I had a penny for every time this scripture was misquoted, I surely would be a billionaire by now! It is the ‘get out of jail card’ used by all defensive Christians who choose not to be accountable for their actions or who choose to wish to languish in sin without being told off!

History has shown that whenever truth be told or a christian is being told off by another christian for their wrongdoing, they automatically quote this scripture. What they are essentially saying is “back off; let me carry on with my sinful ways and do not question my behaviour”.

Is it any wonder that even non-christians or atheists also now quote this scripture and say “I thought you were a christian and you are not supposed to judge”

I love the Amplified version as it drives the point home and goes further than the King James Version in explaining what that scripture actually meant or at least, the message it was trying to pass across (convey).

The KJV says “Judge not, that ye be not judged” whilst the AMP version says “Do not judge and criticise and condemn [others unfairly with an attitude of self-righteous superiority as though assuming the office of a judge], so that you will not be judged [unfairly].

All scripture must be read in context – oh did I mention something defensive christians also love to do? They only quote the first part of a scripture and ignore the rest of the sentence. If we bothered to read scripture in its entirety it would be clear that what this passage appears to target is hypocrites – those who do not apply the same standard to themselves.

So this relates to hypocrites who judge others for sin committed (such as murder, adultery, fornication, theft etc) however they themselves commit that same sin… I too am guilty of that!

I so easily condemn fornicators and adulterers yet when I see good looking well built gentleman I go all crazy and I’m crying within me “sweet Jesus take me home; he is fineeeeee”; I’m a sucker for muscles you see. Scripture actually says that because I have lusted after such men, I have already committed adultery in my heart.

It is clear from this that Jesus does not forbid judging; instead he forbids judging hypocritically or harshly. Also the Bible is the standard by which anything or anyone should be judged and not one’s own standard.

We then have a different kettle of fish of defensive Christians who have placed christian leaders on such a high pedestal and they vehemently oppose anyone who challenges spiritual authority (pastors, preachers, priests) for whatever reason. They choose not to listen to anyone who attempts to reprimand them.

You have cases of some christian/church leaders embezzling church funds for their personal gains; living an extravagant/expensive lifestyle (when their income doesn’t match with their lifestyle), sleeping with vulnerable church members etc. A typical response is that we don’t judge them or bother ourselves with such matters but instead leave them to be dealt with by God. People do you know how many times Jesus told off and rebuked the Pharisees, scribes Sadducees?

Should we continue to suppress the truth? Is it not high time we called a spade a spade?

COVID-19 – Where are the church leaders in this time of crisis?

When is the church going to wake up from its slumber?

Another death; social distancing, isolation/quarantine, one more person affected by the deadly COVID-19; more businesses closing down; unemployment/redundancy – these are the recent headlines that have dominated the news in recent times.

I have watched national leaders, celebrities, world personalities come to the aid of the world and put their money where their mouth is by making substantial donations. To name a few, Liam Payne has teamed up with the Trussell Trust to provide 360,000 meals to people during the coronavirus crisis; Rihanna donated $5m to help fight the virus; Angelina Jolie donated $1m to helping starving children, Blakey Lively and Ryan Reynolds have donated $1m to assist low-income families; Roger Federer donated $1m towards vulnerable families and the list goes on.

My question is – WHAT IS THE CHURCH DOING IN THIS TIME OF CRISIS! Some of these pastors are millionaires and billionaires and are yet to dip into their pockets, set up funds to assist their church members who are going without.

Credit must be given to a few who have done the christian thing and assisted those who have been affected by this pandemic – Father Neil-Allan Walsh who has been supplying food for people in the Waltham Forest area and Pastor Enoch Adeboye who donated ICU beds to several states in Nigeria.

But for most, all that has dominated church services (including online services) is preachers and church leaders focusing in on congregation members giving their “tithes and offerings“. I do not have a problem with pastors who advise their members to make payment online but it is interesting to see the emphasise on this. What is even more shocking is mega churches insisting tithes are still paid by members who have lost their livelihood!

I have seen churches disregard the instructions and disobey the order of their government to STAY AT HOME and exercise social distancing; encouraging church members to attend service/mass and shake hands during a packed service and not to ‘fear’ the COVID-19 Virus. The parents of Jesus himself did not hang about when Herod was after his life; THEY RAN!!!! The Israelites fled when the Egyptians came after them. Elijah ran away from Ahab and Jezebel – these are but a few stories of individuals in the Bible who faced danger and did what any normal person would do – they took precautions and did not place themselves in harm’s way. To the contrary, some so called pastors have mocked church members who refused to attend service/mass for fear that they might contract the virus.

The so called preachers are not out there wearing masks laying hands on ill people or assisting the less vulnerable members in their church or even in their local community. Some churches have collected monies in the past towards a dedicated fund to help;  this is the time to use those funds towards this cause. The church is yet to set up helplines for their members who have been seriously affected one way or the other by the pandemic; but alas, their interests lay elsewhere – that Corona virus or not; the members ensure that they do not forget to pay their tithes and offerings!

The leaders are clearly worried and more concerned about reduction in income/finances to fund their lavish lifestyles and pay themselves a salary; so their guilt riddled sermons is to prey on the vulnerable members to make them feel terrible if they fail to tithe or give offerings. I would actually like to see which pastor would forgo their salaries in a bid to save the funding needed by the church.

The COVD-19 pandemic is a ‘blessing in disguise’ as it has exposed some/most of the church leaders in the world; this is the time for them to trust God as the source of their wealth and not their members. It is time for our pastors, preachers and general overseers to practice what they preach on the pulpit!

The church is not a building; WE are the church and so it is not imperative that we meet in a building to ‘have church’. This issue is a matter of life and death and the health and well-being of church members should be paramount; let common sense prevail please.
